Providing support to Ethnically Diverse Communities where it matters most
DRI is a non-profit social enterprise set up in 2004 in Hastings to support Sussex-based BAME and migrant communities. DRI’s passion is community development initiatives including promoting awareness, sharing information and access to public, voluntary, enterprise, and community support services. Standing by the core principles of fairness and equality, DRI’s training programs support individuals, helping to lead themselves, their organisations, and their communities. Since 2004 DRI has trained over 600 local community interpreters, 52 bilingual advocate/community outreach workers, 16 small business start-ups and 19 participants in leadership & business management.
DRI also facilitates many successful community seminars, workshops & social events celebrating diversity. We work in partnership with public, voluntary, community & enterprise organisations to bridge the gap in equality and equity. DRI believes that linguistic & ethnic advantages enhance creativity, innovation, and enterprise, and is a key factor to bring about greater social justice.
DRI has 42 bilingual community outreach workers who actively support vulnerable people of other languages and cultures through regular communication and signposting public, voluntary and community organisations for further support if needed.
Sussex Community Foundation Covid-19 Crisis Fund has once again awarded us with an extra £5000 to continue supporting isolated and vulnerable members of BAME and migrant communities.
The DRI team, community development trainers, facilitators of the bilingual community outreach workers at East Sussex, and on behalf of the BAME and migrant communities, would like to express their gratitude for the above support and remain very excited about future partnerships, collaboration and further support during this difficult time.
Together we survive & thrive.
Thank you all, from DRI directors and associate directors
Mebrak Ghebreweldi, Yaa Asare, Mamta Patel, Grace Owen, Rozelle Bowerman, and Tove Bentham Sorensen
