Barbara’s role at University Hospitals Sussex NHS Trust (formerly Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust) was to support a workforce of approximately 20,000 staff members and a patient base of 500,000 people covering Brighton and Mid-Sussex (extending to East and West Sussex for patients who require specialist cancer services).
During her time within the organisation, she was fortunate to jointly win with her colleague the NHS Kent, Surrey and Sussex Leadership Collaborative Award 2015 – NHS Leadership of Inclusivity of the Year.
In 2018, she completed the Workforce Race Equality Standard (WRES) Experts Development Programme, which was funded by NHS England. This enabled her to have further skills to help ensure that their Black and minority ethnic workforce had equal access to career opportunities within the workplace.
Barbara lives in East Brighton. She feels fortunate to have her family close by and gets to see them on a very regular basis.
Barbara has found a passion for walking, as well as an ongoing love of reading, concert-going and listening to music at home.
She hopes that the skills she has learnt along the way will be beneficial to supporting the work of Diversity Resource International (DRI).
