Moitree Banerjee
Director
Moitree is the Head of the School of Law, Business and Psychology at the University of Chichester.
Born in India, Moitree moved to the UK in 2009 and has built her career around understanding human experience and widening access to mental health support. She completed her MSc and PhD in the Clinical Psychology and Mental Health, grounding her academic work in the belief that wellbeing is shaped not only by individuals but by the social and cultural systems surrounding them.
She is the Head of the School of Law, Business and Psychology at the University of Chichester, where she leads six departments and works to cultivate learning environments that encourage curiosity, questioning, and community. Her leadership is shaped by a conviction that growth is continuous, collaborative, and deeply connected to the world around us. To live is to learn.
Moitree’s research centres on mental health access, minority stress, and the ways stigma narrows human experience. She explores how each layer of society contributes to people’s wellbeing and how collective responsibility can create conditions where everyone feels seen and supported. Her work consistently seeks to bring academic evidence into conversation with lived realities, especially for those whose voices often go unheard.
Moitree is drawn to DRI’s mission to strengthen community groups, amplify their voices in local decision‑making, and foster inclusive spaces where people can participate fully in shaping their futures. These aims reflect her own values of positive social change grows when communities are empowered, connected, and supported with clear evidence and thoughtful mentorship. Through her involvement, she hopes to contribute to work that creates pathways for future leaders and builds stronger, more engaged communities.
At the heart of her professional and personal life is the belief that the society we shape today becomes the legacy we leave for future generations. As a mother of two daughters, she is committed to helping build a world that is more inclusive, kind, and unified, a world in which the next generation can grow with confidence, dignity, and hope.
